1. You have no fears.
Fearlessness is the first sign of a spiritual person. When you have fear or chronic worry, your life is taken by that fear and you cannot be in the present moment. The three most common fears that Americans have are fear of public speaking, fear of heights, and fear of bugs. But deep inside many people live with fear of death, rejection, loneliness, failure, sickness, or making wrong decisions. Spiritual people know how to surrender to things that are not under their control. In this sense, they are like children- they know how to ignore the mind and live without fear.
2. You see things as they are.
Seeing things as they really are, without illusions, sets you free. Spiritual people are not bogged down by expectations, assumptions, hate, resentment, extreme desire, or attachment to things and people. They understand the nature of impermanence, including their own, as everything and everyone around are in constant change.
3. You don't speak ill of others or gossip.
A spiritual person doesn't find comfort or reassurance in speaking ill of others or spreading gossip about them. A healthy mind doesn't speak ill of other people. Spiritual people mind their own business and focus on their own path while accepting others as they are. They honor other people's life experience by not passing judgment on them or criticizing them. When spiritual people don't have something positive to say about others, they simply don't say anything. They stop negative conversations in their tracks either by not engaging or by retrieving.
4. You are knowledgeable about the right things.
You not only enjoy learning and acquiring new knowledge, but you are also interested in learning the right knowledge. Being knowledgeable about the right things is not the same as having information. Possessing a lot of information doesn't necessarily help you in your spiritual path. However, having the right knowledge about the things that help you in your path to self-realization is the secret to be a person of value and enhance your spirituality.
5. You are loving and kind.
An attitude of loving kindness towards all living things gives you a pure mind and a good energy. Think about the big thinkers and spiritual leaders of all time: Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King, Jesus, Buddha, Rumi, Lao Tze, Muhammad, Albert Einstein, Mata Amritanandamayi, the Dalai Lama, Jaggi Vasudev.
6. You believe that the soul is eternal.
When you understand that the soul is eternal and physical death is a transition, you achieve a clear understanding of the purpose of human existence as a higher consciousness.
7. You meditate.
Meditation is a window to your mind and soul. It helps you connect with who you really are, outside of traditions, laws, culture, and language. The mind is limitless: we don't know where it starts and where it ends. Our mind has around 60,000 thoughts per day, or between 35 and 48 thoughts per minute. Meditation helps you free your mind and soul from the bondage of uncontrolled thought, especially when it doesn't help you in your path towards happiness and enlightenment. A spiritual person has learned how to quite the mind, even if only for a few minutes, or hours. Every moment counts.
8. You feel your life has a purpose.
Being on the path of true spirituality is a life-long process of self-discovery and self-realization. Spiritual people have done the work and know how to connect to the source energy that permeates all their thoughts, actions, and feelings. They know what their life purpose is or they are in the process of understanding it. They are living their purpose because they trust in who they are and what they want in this life path. Spiritual people are typically living a life of service to others and manifesting their life purpose in that way.
9. You take care of your mental and physical health.
Your body is a temple. Spiritual people understand this concept and take care of their health: what they eat, what they drink, what they put in their body. They exercise not to look good according to today's societal standards of physical beauty, but to be strong and pure inside and outside. Being in shape, lean and strong, is a bonus that comes from good action. Spiritual people are also mentally healthy. Just as they watch what they put in their body, they take great care with what they put in their mind. They are highly selective in what they see and listen to (including social media, television, radio, and other mass media), what they think about and what they read. They know their boundaries and the healthy habits that can take them deeper into the spiritual path. They spend their time wisely.
10. You have inner peace.
Because of all the reasons above, spiritual people are at peace with themselves and in relation to others. They don't have expectations or depend on external things or other people for their happiness and fulfillment. Their happiness comes from within, which is the only true form of peace and self-realization.
